I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Fietszaken magazine during Eurobike, an experience that highlighted our journey at ZÆT and shed light on the exciting new directions we're taking in the e-bike industry.
Innovation at the Forefront of E-Bike Technology
"We are pooling our strengths to lead in e-bike technology," was one of the core messages I shared during the interview. At ZÆT, we've always prided ourselves on not just following trends but creating them. From design advice to technical solutions, branding, marketing support, and licensing opportunities—I am deeply involved in every aspect. Since turning my passion into my profession four years ago, I've focused on pushing the boundaries of what's possible in e-bike technology.
How it All Began
The journey into the bike industry began with my four-year stint in China, where I gained substantial experience with an American company specializing in e-bikes. Returning to the Netherlands in 2020, my wife Yang and I founded ZÆT. "2020 was my first year attending Eurobike as a visitor, aiming to expand my network and meet people across Europe," I explained. This exposure led to various design projects throughout Europe, enriching our portfolio and industry presence.
The Role and Vision of ZÆT
ZÆT operates as an umbrella group of enterprises focusing on innovative solutions within the cycling industry. "All design and development projects previously under ZÆT, like revamping an e-bike for Huyser with a Bosch motor, developing new electric city bikes for WATT, and designing a bike for visitors at Toverland, are now carried out by our subsidiary CY:ONS," I detailed in the interview. My role involves leading these enterprises and ensuring our projects align and synergize to continue our innovation streak in line with market needs.
Spotlight on CY:ONS
At CY:ONS, we focus on crafting innovative designs and technologies. "CY:ONS is where we combine our forces—working with freelancers, other entrepreneurs, and manufacturers—to stay ahead in the technological evolution of the e-bike industry," I shared. We are currently developing a steering system for cargo bikes among other revolutionary components that will change the way e-bikes are used.
Looking Ahead
The future for CY:ONS involves diving deeper into unique designs and technologies. "We are on the verge of patenting several designs and aim to showcase these prototypes at upcoming fairs," I mentioned, highlighting our approach to complement rather than compete with our current clients by providing them with innovations they can incorporate into their final products. We are also actively seeking investors to join us in this exciting growth and innovation phase within our industry.
